“And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” – Psalm Acts 4:12 (ESV)

Many religions around the world will recite “incantations” as part of their rituals. These are words or phrases that are repeated many times with the goal of appealing to or appeasing spirits and false gods. True Christianity is nothing like this.  As believers, when we say that there is “power in the name of Jesus,” we do not mean that it is some magical phrase we can say and get whatever we want. Rather we believe that Jesus’ name spoken by faith in all that is and has done is powerful because his Holy Spirit is at work through the truth proclaimed. So when the gospel of Jesus Christ is preached, the lost are saved. Those who were previously in sin and condemned are made free. Fear is cast out and Satan is rebuked (vs. 1). The weak are strengthened. Those who hunger for salvation find grace. The fatherless finds his or her Father in God. And those dead in sin are made alive in Christ (vs. 2). Jesus is the “Lamb” who bore the wrath of God, dying on the cross to pay the penalty for our sins. Those of us who know his great salvation should praise him with all of our hearts and proclaim his glory to the ends of the earth.
