“Worthy are you, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they existed and were created.” – Revelation 4:11 (ESV)
When we say that God is “worthy” of our honor and praise, we mean that he is inherently deserving of it. This song exalts the infinite worth of our God. He is infinite (vs. 1), and nothing we could write, say, or sing, and nothing we could think about him could fully comprehend him. Yet, he has revealed himself to sinners like us, and given us “just a glimpse” of his being. This “glimpse” is enough to leave us awestruck, and cause us to cry out in praise to him. With this in mind, we worship him in song (vs. 2), knowing that even our best praises do not compare with his matchless worth. But God still delights in our worship. In verse 3 we look forward to the day when our faith will be made sight and we will see the Lord in glory. Freed from sin once and for all, we will praise him with unencumbered hearts and minds.
