What Child is This?

“And they went with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby lying in a manger.”
– Luke 2:16
This song ponders the great humility of Jesus, that though he was “Christ the King,” yet he came to earth, and was born in the lowest of circumstances. The angels proclaimed his birth and shepherds sought to worship him, yet he slept on Mary’s lap (vs. 1). He was born, the “Word made flesh,” who came to suffer and die for his people, yet at his birth he was surrounded by cattle and laid in a manger (vs. 2). And as “King of Kings,” yet humbly born, he is the Savior of all who will come to him, both rich and poor (vs. 3).
